On the Road
I had a wonderful visit with a group of high school students in Hailey, Idaho last week. I presented Some Secrets Hurt to them. They are interning as teachers and caregivers in schools and daycares. Their interest in Some Secrets Hurt extended beyond their roles in the classroom. They found personal application as well. They thanked me for writing this book and were very complimentary. They asked me to visit the junior high, the library, the local bookstore. They asked if I would be willing to submit the book to be added to high school curriculum in the state of Idaho. Most of them hugged me on their way out of the room.
This is my second visit with high school students. Both visits were very positive. I find it interesting that my first presentations have been to high school students. Even more interesting is the warm response I am getting from them. What do they know, that we don’t know?
I have always said that this isn’t an ordinary children’s book. This is the children’s book that is for everyone. Don’t be fooled by the simplicity of the book. Some Secrets Hurt has a powerful message. Who needs this message? Everyone needs this message. Parents, teachers, children, teenagers, church leaders….everyone. You need this message.
In January, I hope to start visiting elementary schools. Maybe I should rethink that. Maybe high schools are the place to go. I would love to visit your school. I would love to visit your church group, your women’s group, your youth group. I can give a presentation on writing. I can give a presentation on abuse. I can give a presentation on self esteem. Or all three. Your choice.
It true. Some secrets hurt.
